Club Babyhead

Following their highly successful "double" header" in Asbury Park, Blind Melon played another sold out gig at Club Babyhead in Providence, RI, where some special guests made an appearance. Soul Asylum frontman Dave Pirner and guitarist Dan Murphy, in town on MTV's "Alternative Nation" tour, stopped in to catch the set and celebrate Murphy's birthday.

Pirner and Murphy were treated to a set that included the live debut of three new Melon tunes, including one called "Walk" and one SO fresh it's just being dubbed "new song." The Melons also performed a rare cover of Velvet Underground's "Candy Says," dedicated a birthday tune to Murphy, and treated the packed room to another new track to kick off the evenings encore - a humorous little ditty called "No Bidness" that leads into "Change," off their self titled debut. (Although it wasn't part of the show in Providence, the band have been known to finish off this mini set by seguing into Traffics "Dear Mr. Fantasy" for a truly trippy end to an evening's festivities!)

These club headlining dates are part of the band's warm up for their upcoming national tour with Neil Young and Soundgarden. "No Rain," their current single, is a Buzz Bin track on MTV and making waves across the formats at radio, generating an even more incredible sales the country. Long a regular on the "Heatseekers" chart in Billboard, Blind Melon celebrated their recent successes by leaping on to the Top 200 Albums chart with a vengeance.
